I first heard about Carolee Schneemann in an undergraduate art history course about scandal in the arts. We learned about the backlash against her “Interior Scroll“ performances. Because of the backlash, this is probably Schneemann’s most well-known work, but she had a long career and other well known performances such as “Meat Joy.” Here is an article from Vice chronicling more of her work.
